Unit 1 : final evaluation
In unit 1, i researched about a lot of artist like Anna Atkins, Andy GoldsWorthy, Eric Staller, and many more. we had to learn the use and the functions of the camera such as auto focus, changing the light apearture, and putting it on different mode. Reason why i started having interest for photography was the fact that it was not only taking pictures from a device/camera it was the fact that photography in general have an experimental side to it which made it more interesting because it was exciting to know a range of techniques or skills you can use in photography.
the begining of unit 1 we started to do techniques and processes which means we use and experimented with a range of materials and even chemicals.there is an example of techniques and processes such as light-painting, cyanotypes, rayograms, and many more. when it comes to techniques and processes the one i most enjoyed was light-painting because it was like being able to produce an image from the mind using any light source of your choice. there is two way to do light painting, first way is to draw an image out of light and the second way is to create multiple version of yourself within the image using a strobe. And also my light painting project is linked to another project called spiral which involves light painting.
The second project of unit 1, is called personal project. there is an example of personal projects such as street photography, spirals, fragments, and many more. my first personal project was mobile photography which involve using mobile device like the ipod. with mobile photography we discover many apps with many tools and effects but as with the dslr camera apps is not accesible. with the ipod i use apps like hipstamatic and andigraf which had a really cool effect such as changing lenses, and having a 2x or more lens. it is suprising how good mobile device within our generation can take good pictures even though the quality doesn't keep up with the dslr camera it still got amazing features.
My second personal project is called street photography which is about taking pictures in a busy area as well as a public place. street photography is about taking pictures in public of what people usually see in their daily life or what they experince in public areas or public places. at the begining we watch a video called "everybody street" which is about famous/known artist who take pictures of what they see in the streets example like a mannequin in a shop, a homeless guy, and even from riot. when i started taking pictures i use the dslr camera and when i see a busy crowd or a person i will take the pictures in another angle or even zoom in so you can see them clearly or even get a clear idea of what they was doing.
My third personal project i chose was fragments which is one of my favourite because i like taking picture with pattern in them if it is even abstract or concrete. i found this project fun not only i just took pictures of stuff naturally in a pattern i also did some editing with photoshop which gave it a cool effect such as changing the colour of it or changing the sharpness and contrast. i also use a special lens which already was in a pattern and it was quite cool because when using the lens to take pictures you will see multiple version of what you are taking pictures off. In general reason why i like fragments is because it is like fitting a puzzle together, at the same time looking at the structures of the puzzle edges.
My fourth personal project is called abstract. Abstract means you can't recognized the image because it looks unrealistic or it is difficult to tell because the creation of the picture might be unknown. so i decided to go around the place or search for an object to take the pictures of so that it will be unknown as well as difficult to understand what it is. Plus i did a bunch of abstract images out with basic equipment such as light and paper.
My fifth personal project is called spiral which is one of my favourite too because the first thing popped up on my head was light painting and patterns. before i took any photos i research an artist called Andy Goldswothy he is a sculptor and environmentallist who take pictures based on nature and urban settings and some of his pictures are spirals which helped inspired me. After i finished researching about him i decided to take pictures but first i decided to try the light painting idea in the dark studio first and afterwards i will went to take pictures of spirals from nature if it is naturally found or have to be created.
My sixth personal project is called absurd which is quite funny. Absurd in photography means you take picture with a weird sense but it have a comedy twist to it. The absurd project was easy because of the artist i found when researching and his name is David Shrigley. David Shrigley is a British visual artist which his entire pictures is pretty much absurd, his work of art inspired me a lot that i had a lot of ideas and i pretty much used all of them example writing a sentence on a paper and putting it on an empty space and covering up some of the official sentence so that the sentence is all weird and funny. After that i decided to choose my favourite pictures out of all of the personal projects and i mounted them on the board.
